Alternative Treatment For Diabetes

There are many alternative solutions to helping in the treatment of diabetes. Some of these involve diet, Chinese remedies, aromatherapy, massage therapy and homeopathy. Any of these treatments should be used in combination with medications that are prescribed by a doctor and should never be used as a substitution for those medicines. It’s also important to tell the physician of any alternative treatments that are being used.

The severity of an individual’s diabetes, particularly Type 2 Diabetes, depends largely on the person’s diet. Certain supplements have also been shown to help the body and diminish the negative effects of diabetes. There are six major supplements that will help with the treatment of diabetes. These include: alpha-lipoic acid, chromium, co-enzyme Q10, magnesium, garlic, and omega fatty 3 acids. Other herbal supplements that have proven to be effective are: bitter-lemon, coccinia, ginseng, allium, and vanadium.

While working on their diet to help treat diabetes, vegetarianism could also be considered as a diabetic treatment. A standard vegetarian diet could help, specifically those with Type 2 Diabetes, especially if they are looking to lower their insulin injections. A vegetarian diet is helpful because it is high in complex carbohydrates and high in fiber. This means better metabolism and lower blood sugar levels in the body.

Acupuncture, the Chinese practice of inserting fine needles along pressure points, helps stimulate some body functions. Acupuncture is said to also greatly help in the treatment of diabetes by reducing the impacts of diabetic neuropathy. Treating the pancreas area with acupuncture has also been shown to reduce the autoimmune component so prevalent to diabetes.

Another alternative treatment for diabetes is aromatherapy. Aromatherapy relies on essential oils to improve the mind and body. When used properly, some essential oils can effectively help with diabetes. These include mainly eucalyptus, juniper and geranium oils. Aromatherapy is most effective when used in combination with massage therapy.

Massage therapy can be especially useful for people suffering from diabetes. Massage can stimulate blood movement in the body and this is especially effective when treating diabetic neuropathy and other diabetic complications.

Homeopathic treatment can also be used as an alternative treatment. The art and science of homeopathy relies on the mixture of certain substances. Substances too high in concentration can be dangerous but small doses can be placed under the tongue to aid in treatment. Some of the beneficial substances are phosphorous, Codenium, and Syzygium.

It cannot be emphasized enough that although these alternative treatments can be useful, they are to complement and enhance any medications being taken by the diabetic. They are not to replace them and a doctor should definitely be consulted before any treatments are used.
